Vactrim Light
High-efficiency, professional architectural luminaires engineered for precise light distribution and superior color rendition.
In contemporary architectural design, the integration of light into structural substrates has shifted from a novelty to a fundamental design protocol. Traditional, bulky direct fixtures are increasingly being replaced by seamless, integrated, and continuous linear profiles. At the heart of this physical evolution is the high-performance flexible LED strip light. These versatile assets allow designers to turn ceilings, wall junctions, under-cabinet joinery, stair treads, and exterior facades into dynamic luminescent planes.
However, from a procurement and engineering standpoint, not all flexible LED strips are created equal. High-spec projects require rigorous attention to thermodynamic efficiency, color rendering metrics, physical durability, and dimming fidelity. For large-scale projects, sourcing from trusted, specialized manufacturers is essential to guarantee color consistency across thousands of linear meters and to avoid the high costs of field failures.
The global LED strip light market is structured around two key component packaging technologies. Deciding between them depends on the light diffusion requirements and mounting profiles of the project.
COB strips mount flip-chip dies directly onto the flexible PCB (FPCB), covered by a continuous, phosphor-doped polyurethane encapsulant. This creates a uniform, dot-free line of light without the need for thick diffusers. It is ideal for low-clearance recessed installations and highly reflective surfaces like polished stone floors or glass cabinets.
Utilizing discrete components such as the 2835, 2110, or 2216 packages, SMD strips provide high efficiency (lm/W) and excellent thermal management. Because the components are spaced farther apart, SMD is well-suited for indirect coves, drop ceilings, and applications where the light source is hidden and can project over a wider area.
Key Quality Indicator (Copper FPCB Weight): High-spec flexible LED strips should use at least 2oz, and ideally 3oz, dual-sided rolled-annealed (RA) copper tracks. Thicker copper layers reduce voltage drop over long runs, run cooler, and extend the lifespan of the LED chips.

The concentration of LED manufacturing in Guangdong, China, offers significant supply chain advantages. As the world’s leading hub for optoelectronic components, the region provides unique manufacturing benefits:
High-quality flexible linear lighting is designed to meet the demands of various commercial and architectural projects:
Creating clean, indirect illumination in coves, behind headboards, and within lobby drop ceilings. Utilizing Dim-to-Warm (3000K down to 1800K) to replicate the cozy, warm atmosphere of classic incandescent lighting.
Integrating continuous lines of light into acoustic ceilings and custom pendant profiles. Standardizing on Tunable White (2700K - 6500K) to support human-centric lighting designs that promote productivity and comfort.
Illuminating delicate artwork with high-CRI (Ra > 95, R9 > 90) strip lights that do not emit UV or IR radiation. This preserves the materials while showing colors accurately.
When sourcing flexible linear components, procurement managers should evaluate suppliers using key technical criteria:
Answering critical technical questions to help you make informed decisions for your next project.
COB (Chip-on-Board) strips place many small flip-chips directly onto the flexible PCB, covered by a continuous line of phosphor-doped silicone. This design eliminates visible hot spots and creates a smooth, uniform line of light, even in shallow channels. SMD (Surface Mounted Device) strips use individual packaged LEDs (such as 2835 or 5050 components) spaced along the board. While SMD strips are generally more efficient, they require deeper diffusers to achieve a dot-free look.
The weight of the copper traces on the flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) directly impacts electrical resistance and thermal dissipation. Using a heavier copper weight, like 2oz or 3oz, reduces voltage drop over longer runs, helping to maintain uniform brightness from start to finish. It also helps conduct heat away from the LED chips, keeping junction temperatures lower to preserve the strip's lifetime and color consistency.
SDCM stands for Standard Deviation of Color Matching, and it is measured using MacAdam ellipses. It describes the variation in color temperature between different LED chips. For high-spec projects, choosing a manufacturer that bins within a 3-step MacAdam ellipse ensures that color differences remain virtually imperceptible to the human eye, providing consistent lighting across a space.
Voltage drop occurs when the resistance in the copper traces causes the voltage to decrease as current travels down the strip, resulting in dimmer light at the end of the run. To prevent this, designers can use thicker 3oz FPCB copper, run power to both ends of the strip, choose constant-current strip designs, or specify higher-voltage systems (such as 24V or 48V DC rather than 12V DC).
A high Color Rendering Index (CRI) of Ra 90+ ensures that a light source accurately represents a wide range of colors. The R9 value specifically measures red rendering capability, which is critical for bringing out natural skin tones, highlighting vibrant merchandise, and displaying artwork as the artist intended. Strong red rendering makes spaces feel warmer and more natural.
For indoor environments, IP20 is suitable. For spaces exposed to moisture, like bathrooms and covered pathways, IP65/IP67 silicone jacketed strips protect against splashes and dust. For underwater installations, such as pool interiors or water features, IP68 fully encapsulated polyurethane strips are required to prevent water ingress.
Guangdong Vactrim Light Co., Ltd. provides comprehensive OEM/ODM services, drawing on our engineering team's 10-15 years of industry experience. We can customize FPCB widths, LED densities, nominal wattages, spectral distributions, and wire connections to match specific project plans.
